Why do people get psychic readings? What compells people to call, or visit a psychic? And what leads some people to believe psychics are REAL, where others maintain steadfastly that they are all a scam?
Now I know that some of you are SO skeptical, and think that psychic abilities are IMPOSSIBLE, therefore there would be no value in getting a reading at all.
You’re probably saying, “how can a psychic reading POSSIBLY influence me as my mind is already firmly made up.”
I won’t argue that a good reading will convince you that psychic abilities are TRUE, like my experience more than 15 years ago did for me. (and the many similar ones since)
Instead, I will share with you what one of my closest friends, a lifetime skeptic, cynic and new age “de-bunker” shared with me AFTER speaking to a psychic medium I personally recommended, under circumstances that he was comfortable would make cheating impossible.
He said – “while I’m surprised how good it was and am really, really impressed…….it just makes me more curious how psychics can get information that seems impossible, and how our brains are wired to make that possible.”
I find it really, really interesting how some people are so committed to their beliefs, that even an experience that seems to suggest something different is true, only serves to make them want to find a way to re-enforce what they already thought is a fact! (this is very common when it comes to controversial areas like psychics and the paranormal, and is called “cognitive dissonance” by those that study it closely!)
That said – here are 2 reasons to get a psychic reading TODAY, even if you think your mind is already made up.
1 – You BELIEVE in psychic abilities, think real readings are possible, and yet have NEVER had an experience that has proven to you first hand, that it’s true.
My question? Why? If you truly believe psychics are real, why haven’t you actually sought out a real psychic to substantiate your position? I was a hard core skeptic…..and a simple psychic reading changed my life forever. I never understand how folks who SAY they believe in psychic abilities, and who watch the TV shows, read the books and talk the talk, have never actually gotten a reading themselves firsthand!
2 – You are a Skeptic, Cynic and Think ALL Psychics are New Age Nonsense
I can relate to this position, because I used to believe it! But the irony is, while I believed this 100%, I never sought out to TEST my beliefs by talking to a well rated, reviewed or recommended reader. ( I simply relied on my own common sense, and what I saw on TV, which I thought were well choreographed psychic scams)
To me, being a skeptic, and yet NEVER having had a reading yourself is like saying I hate CHOCOLATE, or pizza…..yet never having tried or experienced either one of those foods.
One last thing……
Regardless of what you think is true, or believe at your core…..a psychic reading is interesting, enlightening, entertaining and a whole lot of FUN, even if it only re-affirms what you already thought was right! I’ve had hundreds of readings over the last 10 years, and as a writer, researcher and paranormal publisher, it’s now my FAVORITE part of my job bar none!
Most people who get psychic readings waste their money.
That’s not me being mean or controversial. It’s just true.
After twenty years of researching psychics, mediums, clairvoyants and intuitives, I can say without any hesitation that the vast majority of people who seek out a psychic, DON’T do it the right way.
The reason?
Mostly mistakes about money. (and on BOTH sides of the fence – too cheap, AND too expensive alike)
For example – my WORST reading of all time was probably the most expensive. It cost me several thousand dollars when you factor in travel expense, and was with a well known celebrity psychic who didn’t get one thing “right” during our reading.
As a matter of fact, I was actually embarrassed for both of us.
One of the best readings was with a no name reader I stumbled upon in some small town that literally blew me away…..and cost $18.
But, most people who seek out psychic advice try to do it for as little as money as possible. They often want FREE readings, and search for psychics who don’t charge. This encourages some unscrupulous psychics to advertise themselves as free……when in fact, they charge like everyone else. (leading to a very common “up-sell” strategy that many readers to employ to turn free readings into expensive ones)
Of course the other dynamic applies as well. People who ASSUME that because a psychic is super expensive, that means they are good, or accomplished or genuine. Not true. (and my research actually shows NO correlation between expense and accuracy at all)
If you are serious about getting a psychic reading, and don’t want to waste your money, do what I do:
- Read a few reviews
- Never invest more than 10 or 20 dollars on an initial session
- Only call psychic services that offer money back guarantees
- Know what kind of reading you want BEFORE it begins (write down your top questions….preparation is key)
- Don’t try to get something for nothing. (you rarely will)
- Enjoy yourself and have fun
That’s the same simple formula I’ve been recommending to my own readers for over 5 years, and if you are serious about getting life changing readings while having a ton of fun, it’s the very same advice I’m giving to YOU. (the only free “psychic” advice you can really trust!)
When is the best time of year to call a psychic?
Or better yet, when are the most POPULAR times of the year to get a psychic reading? Did you know that more people seek out psychic advice at Halloween, Valentines Day and the first week of SPRING over and above any other time of the year? It’s true…..and with Halloween just past, many of OUR readers (as in, those of you who enjoy our psychic blogs, communities and newsletters!) report getting their first psychic reading ever…and as several of you have commented, it CAN be addicting..:-) (simply because when you find a psychic you really like, it’s hard to NOT want to keep calling back to get little pieces of advice or offer updates)
That said – your best bet is to NOT overdo it, and stick with one reading a month MAX…..and usually, one every 6-8 weeks is more than enough. One word. Specificity! It’s either there…..or it’s not. A reading that lacks specific information is the biggest red flag for me. And after hundreds and hundreds of readings, both personally and professionally alike, I can honestly tell you that a reading that is general, vague and leading in nature is one that is NOT to be trusted.
Specific signs that a reader is NOT real?
Nebulous, generalized comments that could apply to anyone
A demand for detail from YOU. The truth is, a qualified psychic will want you to say LESS, not more….and a reader who wants you to add or embellish your answers is fishing for information that they can use
Statements of the obvious. This is particularly problematic with readings you’ll get in person, as your body language, physical characteristics, dress, age, and social status can tell MORE about you than you can ever know. (another reason I prefer, and recommend phone readings whenever possible)
Lastly, trust your OWN gut and intuition. A good psychic will make you feel comfortable. If your inner intuition is ringing red alarm bells that something doesn’t feel right during a reading, it probably ISN’T right. (and you should feel free to end the conversation, or walk out of the room as well)
The easiest way to find a great psychic for a great price?
There are several great psychic services that offer amazing readings that are backed by 100% performance promises …..that you simply CAN’T go wrong. If a psychic (or a service) is willing to put their money where their mouth is, guarantee your experience will be great or you don’t have to pay, and offer you a risk free reading that allows you to “win” either way, it’s truly an offer that’s hard to refuse.
The good news is, GONE are the days of expensive, outrageous 900 numbers with fake telephone operators making BELIEVE they are genuinely intuitive. Instead, we are all fortunate to live in an age where the best of EVERY profession is often a simple phone call away, and nowhere is that more apparent than the wild, wacky and wonderful world of psychic readings!
